[ That frantic, whispered warning is all he gets before fifth-year Victoire dives under the table that seventh-year Teddy had been studying at in the library. She'd run in rather frantically and presumably has reason to do so.

The reason becomes clearer when an irritated Professor McGonnagall peers into the library scant minutes later...

[ Since he clearly has seen no one, Teddy only casually trades one History of Magic book on his table for another as Professor McGonnagall peers in. All she will find is students studying diligently in this library. These are not the droids she is looking for.

When the coast clears and the Professor takes her hunt elsewhere (which is good because plan b was meta'ing into Victoire and playing the old bait-and-switch to allow Victoire a clean getaway), Teddy peers under the table curiously. ]

I hope you haven't set anything on fire today.

Merlin's beard, why do you always assume I've set something on fire! I almost never set things on fire!

[ "Almost never" not being the same thing as "absolutely never"...Victoire crawls out from under the table with great dignity, and then props her hip on the edge of it, standing beside the still-seated Teddy. ]

Anyway, I didn't. Freddy may have done. [ She is not any longer the only Weasley at Hogwarts, even if some of the broods have yet to hit it, spaced out as they are. ]

[ "Almost never" may as well mean "occasionally". Teddy gives her an appropriately skeptical look. ]

If Freddy set something on fire, [ does he even want to know why he did ] then why is McGonagall after your head?

I maaaaaaaaaay have recruited him to do something and he may or may not have snitched.

[ which means she totally did and he totally did. ]

But the fire was accidental! And you were all busy with your NEWTs. [ She pitches her voice lower, imitating Teddy. ] "Oh, no, Victoire I can't go and have an adventure with you now, I have to study for a test five months off which I'll probably ace even if I don't do any work whatsoever!" Merlin, Freddy's such a subpar sidekick.

To be fair, that's what you get for enlisting such an unworthy henchman.

Hey, hey-- I don't sound like that! And I would most certainly not ace them without putting in the proper work! But at least-- [ Teddy shifts his features into Victoire's, and clears his throat. ] "Oh, Teddy, I don't care about my OWLs at all! Unlike you, I would rather cause trouble instead of study, because getting good marks means nothing to me! I want to work at the local supermarket after I finish school!" Why'd you choose Freddy of all people, anyhow?

[ She slugs him in the arm, looking half-horrified. ]

[ Rubbing his arm as he shifts back to his regular self. ]
